Find a surgeon

The Find a Surgeon directory is a listing of active Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons who meet the requirements of the College's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program and have opted to be on the list. This list excludes retired or inactive Fellows.

The College functions and delivers its services at a bi-national, national and state/territory level. Its regional/national offices are responsible for a range of activities on behalf of the College.

Each region plays a vital role as part of the College by:

  • Being the voice of the College in the region
  • Maintaining strong relationships with Departments of Health/Ministry of Health
  • Advocating on issues of importance to the College
  • Maintaining strong relationships with hospitals and relevant health organisations
  • Being the first port of call for local Fellows, Trainees and International Medical Graduates
  • Communicating regularly with the local membership
  • Providing regional educational opportunities to local Fellows, Trainees and International Medical Graduates
  • Coordinating College activities such as examinations and workshops held in the region
  • Recognising the contributions of local Fellows

Access each region's page for local activities and other information of use and interest:

Committees

Regional committees and the New Zealand National Board were appointed by Council in 1927. The committees are comprised of local Fellows elected by the fellowship in that region. Most committees have representation from all nine specialties, rural/regional, Younger Fellows and Trainees. The Chair is nominated by the Committee and may serve a one year or two year term.  The Chair of each committee is a member of the Board of Regional Chairs that reports to Council.

The committees serve an important role in being the voice of the College and in meeting the needs of the local Fellows, Trainees and International Medical Graduates.  The Chair and Committee members regularly liaise with relevant government departments, respond to submission requests and consultations, provide advice to government, advocate on behalf of the College and its Fellows, and serve as ambassadors of the College within their sphere of influence.

Workforce

Active Fellows by specialty and region, as at December 2014

A Fellow is considered active if they are currently involved in any aspect of surgical activity that involves the use of surgical skills or knowledge gained through their surgical training. This extends to and is not exclusive of medico-legal work, research or supervision of Trainees and International Medical Graduates (IMGs). Further Annual and Interim Activities Reports are available on the workforce and activities reports page.
