 The Call for Abstracts

Opens: 19 April 2017 | Closes: 25 July 2017

The Vic ASM seeks to showcase the best of Victorian reseach with a surgical interest. Abstracts are invited from Fellows, IMGs, Surgical Trainees and Medical Students.  All abstracts are assessed by a panel of surgeons, with the strongest being chosen for oral and poster presentation.  A panel of judges will assess all presentations at the conference and Victorian and Tasmanian prizes will be announced and awarded at the G J Royal Dinner and Lecture to be held on the evening of Saturday 21 October.

Publication: Successful abstracts will be printed in the final program and those presentated orally will be published online in the ANZ Journal of Surgery.

Training recognition: General Surgery Australia approve trainee abstracts for recognition for research requirements. For other specialties, please check directly with your board.

New in 2017: Poster presenters will have the opportunity to present a 2 min outline of their poster during the program.

Submissions requirements:
•    Author/s - in order of contribution, presenter in bold
•    The title
•    An Abstract of 250 words or less.  This must include:  Intro/Aim, Method, Results, Discussion/Conclusion
•    A 50 word presenter bio to facilitate the Chairperson's introduction
•    Personal details: address, mobile, institution of presenter, year level of study (where applicable)
•    Conflict of Interest Declaration
•    Prize interest

Submission will be via a link that will be posted here in April, 2017.

Authors considering submitting an abstract are encouraged to read the Vic ASM abstract guidelines.


Prizes

The following prizes will be decided at the meeting

2017 D R Leslie Prize:  Best clinical registrar paper
2017 R C Bennett Prize:  Best laboratory based research paper
DCAS Scholarship:  Best presentation appropriate to academic surgery
2017 Medical Student Prize: Best presentation by a medical student
2017 Best Poster Prize: Poster judged best at the meeting.
