Privacy

Providing information about patients has important implications. In collecting and using any patient information, it is your responsibility to ensure that all privacy obligations are met, and any necessary consent obtained. Only de-identified information should be routinely stored.

Please note that as some identifying information is required for the Surgical Education and Training program (SET) logbook, it is removed from the datasets stored within MALT after the cases are approved.

If any identifying information is recorded in MALT, please ensure the Privacy Statement of your hospital or surgical practice addresses this issue and your patient has consented.

For further information, please consult your hospital's Privacy Statement.

Providing data to Training Boards

The ownership and responsibility for data that is entered into MALT is with the Fellow or Trainee who are using the program. It is not owned or oversighted by the Training Boards or College.

However, Trainees need to provide logbook data to the various Training Boards as they proceed through the training program. The Logbook summary report about the number of cases performed will be generated in pdf for you to submit to the Training Board. This summary will also be compiled via electronic extract and be available to the Training Boards at the end of your rotation.

If you do not wish this to happen, can you please inform your Training Board and also contact the MALT administrator at the following email address malt@surgeons.org

As a result of these declarations, the data that becomes available as a result of the prescribed activity cannot be disclosed (in reports or publications) outside of that activity in a manner that identifies a person. The confidentiality of the information received is protected accordingly and high-level data security procedures are maintained.
