Role overview

EMST200The role of the EMST coordinator is essential for the successful conduct of each course. EMST coordinators usually have a background in nursing and trauma, and have an interest in education.

If you are a highly organised person who is passionate about trauma, consider becoming an EMST coordinator. The coordinator works closely with the course director, and is responsible for organising the course; pre-course planning and post-course summation.

Nursing professionals interested in participating in the EMST program are welcomed to apply to become an EMST coordinator. Please register your interest by:

Eligibility criteria:

  • A health professional with a base knowledge of medical core content and related equipment such as a Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Nursing Education Coordinator, Registered Nurse with emergency/trauma experience
  • Proven organisational skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Familiar with EMST course policies and procedures

Training process:

  • Attend an EMST provider course as an observer with an experienced EMST coordinator
  • Actively assists an experienced coordinator on an EMST provider course as a Coordinator Candidate to gain an understanding of the course requirements and administrative tasks
  • Manage the pre and post course planning, and the operation of an EMST provider course under the supervision of an experienced coordinator and course director
  • Recommendation submitted to the National Coordinator for approval to obtain EMST coordinator status

Coordinator professional assistance program

In appreciation of the hard work and loyalty of our EMST coordinators, the College and the EMST Committee offer funding for coordinators through the coordinator professional assistance program. Funding between $500 and $1500 is awarded for participation in an activity to enhance the coordinator's professional knowledge and expertise in the management of trauma and/or trauma education.

If you have been an EMST coordinator for over three years and have not previously been funded through this program, you are eligible to apply.
