Queensland Audit of Surgical Mortality (QASM)
QASM is an external, independent, peer review audit of the process of care associated with surgically related deaths in Queensland.
The Queensland Audit of Surgical Mortality (QASM) is funded by Queensland Health and managed by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. QASM commenced data collection in September 2007.
The principal aim of QASM is to improve the quality of healthcare through feedback to surgeons and education of all surgical staff. To do this, evidence from local audit data collected from public and private hospitals is required.
Feedback is provided to individual surgeons and aggregated data is disseminated to hospitals.
QASM is a quality assurance activity and is covered by qualified privilege, which strictly protects the confidentiality of information gained in the audit.
