Dr Benjamin Wei
Overview
Dr Benjamin Wei is a well-respected and knowledgeable Ear, Nose, Throat & Head & Neck Surgeon who strives to provide the best surgical care for his patients.
Dr Wei completed his surgical training in Australia and the United States of America. He first completed his undergraduate medical degree at The University of Melbourne and then awarded fellowship in Otolaryngology: Head and Neck surgery by The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
He further achieved advanced surgical techniques in lateral skull base surgery, otological surgery and cochlear implantation at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, USA.
Benjamin’s passion for advancing medical technology (facilitating optimal care for patients), lead him to complete a PhD at the Bionics institute during his fellowship training, mentored by Professor Graeme Clark - the pioneer of the multichannel cochlear implant.
Dr Wei’s research on “Pneumococcal Meningitis Post Cochlear Implantation: Risk Assessment and Prevention Strategies,“ earned him multiple awards. These included; The Association for Research in Otolaryngology, American Academy of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgical Research Prize and the Premier's Award for Health and Medical Research (a joint initiative of the Victorian Government and Australian Society for Medical Research).
He was the first and only Australian ENT surgeon to win these prestigious local and international accolades and many of his publications have resulted in national and international recognition. Consequently, Benjamin was invited to guest-lecture at Harvard, John Hopkins, New York, Stanford and Iowa Universities.
Dr Wei practices at various locations including; The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne and St John of God Hospital in Ballarat. Dr Wei’s years of training and experience enable him to utilise advanced surgical procedures and employ current evidence based medicine to personalise optimal treatment for patients.
