Dr Chitrakanti 'Raj' Kapadia
Overview
Dr Raj was born in Seychelles and brought up in Nigeria, India, and the UK. After graduating from Westminster Medical School, he continued his general surgical training in various centres throughout England, including research in Harvard, USA. Dr Kapadia became a Consultant General Surgeon in Airedale, Yorkshire, on January 1st 1987. He retired early from the NHS and moved to Australia in 2011. He was Director of Surgery in Mount Isa before relocating to Rockhampton in 2016, where he worked as a Senior Consultant Surgeon until 2021. In 2021, Dr Raj chose to leave the public hospital service and concentrate on his private practice at Hillcrest Hospital in Rockhampton.
Throughout his career, Dr Kapadia has been interested in gastrointestinal surgery, particularly colorectal surgery. In 1990, he became involved in developing laparoscopic surgery, and he went on to teach and precept laparoscopic colorectal surgery to consultant colorectal surgeons in the UK. He was on the UK Cancer Czar's team, which accredited Colorectal Units in the UK.
Dr Raj is a highly skilled general surgeon with a focus on colorectal surgery. He offers surgical treatments for colon cancer (minimally invasive), benign anorectal conditions, and hemorrhoids. Dr Kapadia is also an experienced accredited endoscopist who provides open-access colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures. He also performs a range of general surgical procedures, including laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, appendectomy, hernia repair, medical circumcisions and varicose vein treatment.
Dr Raj and his team firmly believe that Central Queensland residents should not have to travel to larger centres to receive specialised treatment and are committed to serving the Central Queensland community with high-quality surgical care.
