Mr David Mitchell

Overview

Mr David Mitchell is a member of the Australian Knee Society and a proponent of Rapid Recovery Surgery. Mr Mitchell is a senior member of Ballarat Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, who have moved their consulting include acute sports injury assessment to 109 Webster Street, the old Novar Hospital, backing on to St John of God. He is also the Director of Orthopaedics at Ballarat Base Hospital.

Mr Mitchell’s work is roughly split between joint replacement surgery, and knee surgery such as arthroscopic surgery, ACL reconstruction, realignment osteotomy & patellofemoral surgery. Using Rapid Recovery Techniques and Local Infiltration Analgesia, most joint replacement patients are discharged the day after surgery. These techniques also benefit other operations - less pain and better mobility after surgery has been demonstrated to improve outcomes and reduce complications.

Prior to Ballarat, he graduated from the University of Melbourne with MBBS, and then trained in Orthopaedic Surgery and was awarded his FRACS(Orth) in 1998. He was the Australian Charnley Clinical Research Fellow at Wrightington Hospital, England, in the year 2000, the home of truly successful hip replacements since 1962.
