Dr David Sparks
Overview
Dr David Sparks is an Australian trained Specialist Plastic Surgeon with a specific interest in skin cancer/melanoma and head and neck surgery including the management of parotid/neck lumps, cancer reconstruction, facial palsy, facial trauma and facial cosmetic surgery. He also performs traumatic and oncological lower limb reconstruction for which he has presented research work on an international stage.
Dr Sparks has had a broad training in all aspects of plastic, hand, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery in major public and private hospitals throughout Brisbane, Sydney and the Gold Coast. On completion of training, he was awarded the Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
Dr Sparks has a proud academic record and has won a number of national research awards during his surgical training, including: The Emmett Prize by the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Neville Davis prize by the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Young Investigator Award by the Surgical Research Society of Australia. He was also awarded the Poate Family Plastic and Reconstructive Travel Grant to observe leaders in craniofacial surgery in the United States.
Dr Sparks has a PhD in regenerative medicine for which he was nominated for the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award (ODTA). Currently he has an appointment as a Lecturer with the University of Queensland. Dr Sparks has published multiple research papers in plastic surgery and regenerative medicine, including journals affiliated with both Nature and Science. He is also actively involved in training junior medical staff and future plastic surgeons and also supervises research students.
Dr Sparks aims to provide a holistic surgical experience for his patients. He brings together his experience in both reconstructive and cosmetic aspects to his plastic surgical training as well as his experience in regenerative medicine research to optimise outcomes for his patients.
