Dr Richard Atkinson
Overview
Dr Richard Atkinson is an Australian trained Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He has previously worked within allied health as a radiographer he studied medicine at the University of Sydney, completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours in 2008.
He commenced specialty surgical training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, working throughout various Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery departments in Sydney. After completion of training and obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), he spent a further 2 years in the United Kingdom working at the Oxford University Hospitals and Salford Royal Hospital in Manchester to expand his sub-speciality experience in areas of hand surgery, microsurgery, limb reconstruction and other aspects of general plastic surgery.
He is a consultant within the Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery Department at Royal North Shore Hospital, the Plastic Surgery Department at Northern Beaches Hospital and the Plastic Surgery Department at Auburn and Westmead Hospitals. Dr Atkinson also works privately at North Shore Private Hospital and Castlecrag Private Hospital. He is proficient in all aspects of plastic surgery with a special interest in hand and peripheral nerve surgery, microsurgical reconstruction, trauma surgery, limb and skin cancer reconstruction. He is the current Supervisor of Training for Auburn Hospital and is involved in training both Plastic and Orthopaedic surgery trainees across Sydney, NSW.
