Dr William 'John' Gault

Overview

Dr Gault was born and raised in Northern Ireland where he studied and received his formal qualification in Medicine at Queens University in Belfast. John relocated to Australia early in his medical career and completed his Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Surgeons. John has undergone extensive training in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery in Australia, Europe and the United States gaining specialized experience in both these areas.

In addition to his private practice, Dr Gault has been a Staff Specialist at The Gold Coast Hospital, Robina Campus since 2008. He has played a major role in establishing the General, Breast and Melanoma services at Robina for the Gold Coast district. More recently, John has established a Breast reconstruction and oncoplastic service in the public hospital system on the Gold Coast.

With an interest in training and education in his field of expertise, John has also pioneered and established a Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand Fellowship training position in Breast surgery at the Gold Coast Hospital; Robina.

Dr Gault is a Consultant at Breast Screen Australia at the Southport Branch.

Special Interests and Services Provided

Dr Gault has a special interest and is a surgeon on the forefront of the developing field of Oncoplastic surgery. Oncoplastic surgery is a combination of breast cancer surgery and plastic surgery, incorporating advanced surgical techniques that firstly focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for breast cancer, whist also achieving excellent cosmetic results.

Oncoplastic surgery provides more choices for the patient with breast cancer and aims to maximize the cosmetic result following both breast conserving or reconstructive surgery.

Together with his interest in treating breast cancer, Dr Gault has an interest and extensive expertise and experience in the treatment of malignant melanoma. Dr 

Gault has vast experience with the use of Sentinel lymph node biopsy and lymph node dissection for the management of lymph node involvement.
