Annual Scientific Meeting - 27 October 2018

This year's event was a great success with record number of 70 abstract entries were received, 12 verbal abstracts and 12 poster presentations were selected. View what was in the program on the ASM page.

Award Presentations

Academy of Surgical Educators Award -

Dr Sindy Vrancic, Orthopaedic Surgeon was recognises for her exceptional contribution to training and surgical education, her involvement in professional development and commitment towards supporting Trainees and IMGs

Sindy will receive her official award at the Academy of Surgical Educators annual dinner along with Fellows selected from each jurisdictions.

Outstanding Service to the Community Award -  

Mr Ian Davis, General Surgeon has been a long and dedicated surgeon, providing service to the local community, and has often been at the forefront of advancements in surgical techniques, governance and education.

Ian has been a long-standing health advocate with a long list of commitments which have contributed to the delivery of high quality surgical services in Canberra and surrounding districts.

Presention: 'Disease spectrum, interventions and outcomes in geriatric emergency general surgery'

Professor Noel Tait Student Prize

Students this year were asked to write an essay along the theme of this year's ASM, "The role of surgeons in health advocacy".

1st year medical student Akash Patel wrote the winning essay, with an honorary mention to both Emily Kane and Sam Gerami for their excellent submissions.

Active Fellows by specialty and region, as at December 2016

A Fellow is considered active if they are currently involved in any aspect of surgical activity that involves the use of surgical skills or knowledge gained through their surgical training. This extends to and is not exclusive of medico-legal work, research or supervision of Trainees and International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
