RACS ACT Annual Scientific Meeting

System of Care: Collaboration and Innovation

Invited Speakers:

Dr James Kong from the University of Hong Kong will be discussing the establishment of emergency and surgical services in Myanmar and health informatics.

Mr Grant Christey, Director of Trauma, Waikato District Health Board NZ will speak about his experience in developing a data visualisation tool and the opportunities this offers to engage policy and decision makers.

RACS President, Mr John Batten has been asked to provide insights on challenges to surgical education and competency-based learning.

Professor Imogen Mitchell, Dean of Medicine ANU, will speak about translating research to clinical practice.

All specialty groups are encouraged to attend.

Surgical Skills Workshop - 11-12 August 2017

11 August 6.30 - 8.30pm

Delivering Bad News: Join guest speakers Simon Robertson (Intensivist), Nicole Gorddard (Medical Oncologist) and Anna Burger (Psychiatrist) for an evening focused on strategies to achieve patient-centred communication, deliver bad news and conduct difficult conversations.

12 August 9am - 5pm

Surgical Skills: The surgical skills workshops are an opportunity for junior doctors, surgical trainees, registrars and residents to focus on core surgical skills in an interactive setting with direct teaching and supervision from surgeons. Sessions available for both Introductory and Advanced levels.

A Fellow is considered active if they are currently involved in any aspect of surgical activity that involves the use of surgical skills or knowledge gained through their surgical training. This extends to and is not exclusive of medico-legal work, research or supervision of Trainees and International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
