The Find a Surgeon directory is a listing of active Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons who meet the requirements of the College's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program and have opted to be on the list. This list excludes retired or inactive Fellows.

 

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Indigenous Health Committee, is offering a number of awards for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander final year medical students and doctors with an interest in surgery to attend the College's Annual Scientific Congress (ASC) in May. Funding is available for attendance at the ASC 2019 in Bangkok.

The Award aims to provide those considering a career in surgery with the opportunity to:

  • Participate in the educational program of the College at its Annual Scientific Congress
  • Network with Fellows and meet influential healthcare professionals in the surgical profession
  • Gain an understanding of the activities of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
  • Discuss with College leadership career path issues for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander medical professionals.
  • In 2019, there are two new ASC peer mentor awards available for previous ASC Award recipients

Eligibility

To be eligible for an Award an applicant must:

  • Identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and be eligible to be a member of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association
  • Possess, or be a final year student engaged in, a medical degree from an Australian or New Zealand medical school.

Application Process

Applications for 2019 are now open and will close 11 February 2019.

Applicants are required to complete the application form (editable PDF), attach a current CV and two letters of reference. Complete applications to be emailed to indigenoushealth@surgeons.org.

Selection Process

Award recipients will be selected by an assessment panel and their decision will be final.

A number of awards will be offered each year depending on the availability of funding and the quality of applications.

Award Benefits

The award recipients shall receive:

  • A return economy airfare to the ASC from the major city nearest to their permanent residence
  • Accommodation for 5 nights at a College nominated preferred conference hotel
  • ASC 4 day registration

Award Conditions

The award recipients will be required to:

  • show confirmation of conference leave (or similar) and ensure that conference attendance will not be at detriment to their studies
  • provide a 500 word post-conference report to RACS within 2 weeks of the ASC being held. The report may be used in promotional material by RACS and AIDA
