Last year RACS responded to Senate Community Affairs Reference Committee's Urogynaecological Mesh Inquiry. Our submission was a collaboration across specialties and made a number of recommendations to the Committee.

Last week the Australian Government committed $2.3 million over three years to improve health outcomes for the more than 20,000 women who undergo pelvic floor surgical procedures each year. This includes he establishment of a Pelvic Floor Surgery Clinical Quality Registry to collect information about the safety of medical procedures and transvaginal surgical mesh devices which are used in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.

This is a fantastic outcome and we would like to acknowledge the dedication of everyone who advocated for this funding, and particularly those who provided input to our submission. The Government's response to the Committee's recommendations can be found here.
