Breaking barriers; developing drivers for female surgeons is one of RACS key projects on gender diversity, working to the goals of theRACS Building Respect, Improving Patient Safety (BRIPS) initiative.
While half of students in Australian and New Zealand medical schools are female, this number drops significantly for surgical training admissions.
As part of our commitment to bridging this gap, we initiated a pilot study with the Australian National University to explore women's views on a career in surgery. The next phase of the project is a wider survey to gather qualitative information.
We are now seeking the views of women who are over 18, in an Australian or New Zealand medical school or a junior doctor not currently in a surgical training program.

The ten minute survey is open from 9 May - 3 June 2019. All data collected will be de-identified.
