Who can do cosmetic surgery?

Overview
Cosmetic surgery should be performed by surgeons from several surgical disciplines. Cosmetic surgical procedures within the scope of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) fields of specialty practice are performed by, but not limited to:
- Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons
- Otolaryngologists
- General surgeons
- Urologists.
In Australia, the common theme linking the above practitioners is that they have all completed an Australian Medical Council (AMC) accredited fellowship and comply with ongoing continuing professional development requirements. Compliance allows them to attain and maintain specialist registration.
In Aotearoa New Zealand, surgeons are accredited with vocational registration by the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in the same surgical specialties. They also have to comply with continuing professional development requirements.
