What is the latest update on exams?
The RACS Fellowship Exam sitting in April-May has been postponed until further notice, as first advised on 11 March 2020. In addition, the upcoming Generic Surgical Sciences Exam (GSSE), Specialty-specific Surgical Sciences Exams (SSE) and Clinical Exam (CE) sittings in June have now been postponed until further notice. RACS will provide all exam candidates with a minimum of three months’ notice when a decision to reinstate exams has been made. The Court of Examiners are next convening at the end of April to decide the next steps.
If the exams are postponed, when will they be rescheduled?
We understand your concern and we are discussing with the relevant stakeholders for the best possible outcome. We will be giving at least three months’ notice when a decision for a reinstated exam has been made. We will endeavour to work in your best interests and commit to providing you with regular updates as things unfold. Please check our website regularly for updates.
Will I receive a refund of fees paid?
The Examinations Department will be in touch with instructions to withdraw and will follow with information on your refunds.
My exam is cancelled, what would this mean for my application and/or progression in SET training?
We understand the implications the cancellation of an exam can have on your application or progression in your Surgical Training Program and we are working closely with all Specialty Training Boards to consider your circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
Can I register for the exams now?
All registrations are closed until further notice. Currently registered candidates will be withdrawn and refunded.
Will I get preferential entry into the rescheduled exam?
Currently no decisions have been made regarding the practicalities of the rescheduled exams. The appropriate Committees are meeting to discuss these practicalities in the coming weeks. We will publish the latest information on our website as these changes occur.
