Training Program
The objective of the Research and Evaluation ASERNIPS Training Program is to examine the HTA continuum, from the nomination of a service or technology, to the development recommendations for the local health care setting.
Attendees will gain the core skills necessary to assess the safety, clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of surgical procedures and medical devices. The program covers:
- the HTA process and HTA products
- protocol development for a HTA project
- conducting searches for the peer-reviewed and grey literature to identify and retrieve evidence
- how to appraise evidence for quality and bias
- how to conduct/review an HTA report of a surgical service or medical device; including how to interpret meta-analyses and results from cost-effectiveness studies
- the application of multi-criteria decision analysis for prioritisation of technologies for assessment and approval
- an understanding of evidence-based funding for surgical services and medical devices
