Environmentally sustainable surgical practice
Environmental sustainability is a topic of increasing interest and importance. The Australian Medical Council (AMC) has mandated education on environmental sustainability to be incorporated into medical school and hospital educational curricula.
RACS is developing three micro-learning modules to deliver foundational educational content the relationship between climate, health and surgery. The RACS Environmental Sustainability in Surgical Practice Working Party (ESSPWP) will provide the subject matter expertise for the modules.
The micro-learning modules will be available to Fellows, Trainees, SIMGs and JDocs in 2025.
Human Factors course updates
The suite of seven Human Factors courses have been updated and will be available to all JDocs subscribers in 2025. The Human Factors suite covers the following topics:
• Conflict management
• Decision making
• Patient-centred communication
• Situation awareness
• Speaking up in response to unacceptable behaviour
• Stress and resilience
• Team dynamics

We’re excited to announce the launching of an exclusive JDocs LinkedIn group for current JDocs subscribers. This new space will foster community, provide opportunities to share GSSE study tips, connect with RACS Fellows through exclusive events, and offer valuable support as you navigate your surgical career. Applying for the 2026 SET intake?
For those preparing to apply for selection to the 2026 SET intake, we’re pleased to share that the Vascular Surgery training program has included the following JDocs-specific opportunities in its criteria for selection to the training program in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand:
• JDocs Framework participation: You can earn 1 point by participating in the JDocs Framework for at least 12 months and submitting your JDocs professional profile, which confirms the completion of all key clinical tasks. Aotearoa New Zealand applicants may submit their JDocs registration and completion of tasks via ePORT.
Note: JDocs registration is subject to confirmation by RACS and must be accompanied by a portfolio summary checklist of all clinical tasks completed, available on the JDocs and ePORT websites.
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety Courses: Completion of all three Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety Courses (1, 2, and 3) earns you an additional 1 point. Applicants must provide certificates of completion for all three courses.
