Who can apply?
Applications are open to enrolled SET Trainees and junior doctors who can provide confirmation of eligibility for membership to the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA) or to Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa The Māori Medical Practitioners Association (Te ORA).

Activity
The scholarship may be used to fund:
- SET registration, course and examination fees
- courses for junior doctors that support a surgical career pathway
- research projects
- mentoring programs
- travel, accommodation and registration fees to attend local or overseas conferences
- other relevant professional development activitiesUpon acceptance the recipient is required to submit a short video (via RACS Unlock) describing their intended activity.
12 month post-grant activity the recipient is encouraged to attend a speaking engagement with J & J (either virtually or in person, as agreed by the recipient and J) to provide insight into how the grant has impacted their career.
The recipient has the option to act in an advisory role to the J & J Reconciliation Action Plan Committee.
Recipients are encouraged to submit an abstract, and if successful, to present their findings and/or learnings at the annual meeting of the Surgical Research Society of Australasia and elsewhere.
The activity for which funding is being sought must commence after the grant application closing date but prior to the end of the grant year (December 31st). All grant recipients will be required to provide an activity report at the end of the grant year outlining their progress against their proposal timeline.

Application requirements
Your application is to include:
- your career and employment details
- your activity proposal including: how your activity will benefit your professional development; and contribute to improving Australian and/or Aotearoa New Zealand surgical standards and knowledge base
- the expected outcomes of your activity
- proposed costs
- a statement addressing your current and future commitment to Māori or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- evidence of eligibility for membership to Te ORA or to AIDA -

Where two applications are of equal merit, preference will be given to SET Trainees.
The selection panel is comprised of members of the Indigenous Health Committee and may include other committee members and invited representatives.Awarding
- payment is made directly to the recipient by 1 March in the grant year (following receipt of a valid invoice) -

You may register as an applicant on RACS Unlock at any time, however applications will not display on your dashboard until the Scholarships and Grants Program application opening date. There is no need to re-register if you already have a RACS Unlock registration.
