Indigenous Program – Davison Family Grant

To be eligible for this grant, you need to be a junior doctor intending to undertake postgraduate surgical training and:

- be registered to practise as a doctor in Australia
- provide confirmation of eligibility for membership to the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA)

The grant funds costs associated with undertaking postgraduate surgical training including course fees. 

The activity for which funding is being sought must commence after the grant application closing date but prior to the end of the grant year (December 31st). All grant recipients will be required to provide an activity report at the end of the grant year outlining their progress against their proposal timeline.

Your application is to include:

- your career and employment details
- your activity proposal including: how your activity will benefit your professional development; and contribute to improving Australian and/or Aotearoa New Zealand surgical standards and knowledge base
- the expected outcomes of your activity
- proposed costs 
- statements addressing your aspirations, interest in pursuing a surgical career, relevance to current stage of training or medical career, and current and future commitment to Māori or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, along with your commitment to inspiring, leading and mentoring other young doctors to become Indigenous surgeons
- evidence of eligibility for membership to Te ORA or to AIDA
- evidence of registration as a medical doctor in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand

Selection is based upon:

- your activity proposal including the expected outcomes and proposed costs of your activity
- your statements addressing your aspirations and commitment to pursuing a surgical career
- how the activity will help you towards a surgical career
- how you have contributed to or are currently contributing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health or Māori health and how you will contribute in the future
- your commitment to inspiring, leading and mentoring other young Indigenous doctors to become future surgeons

The selection panel includes members of the Indigenous Health Committee and AIDA and may include members of the Board of Surgical Education, Prevocational and Skills Education Committee and Fellowships Services Committee. Mr Ian Davison is an observer.

Preference may be given to applicants who are members of AIDA.

Awarding

-payment is made directly to the recipient by 1 March in the scholarship year (following receipt of a valid invoice)

Application is via the Scholarships and Grants Program online platform, RACS Unlock, hosted by Survey Monkey Apply.

You may register as an applicant on RACS Unlock at any time, however applications will not display on your dashboard until the Scholarships and Grants Program application opening date. There is no need to re-register if you already have a RACS Unlock registration.
