Membership of RACS
Being a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) gives you entrance to the largest network of surgeons in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
We have over 10,000 Fellows, Trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) across nine surgical specialties. Membership connects you to your peers in the surgical profession as well as the wider healthcare community. Through collegiality and collaboration, RACS members play a pivotal role in maintaining surgical standards, advancing surgery and providing health leadership.
Fellowship of the College also allows surgeons to adopt the FRACS (Fellow of RACS) post nominal, sending an internationally recognised message to patients and peers that they have attained the highest standards in surgery and are committed to lifelong learning.
RACS was established nearly 100 years ago to raise surgical standards and recognise surgical expertise. Those imperatives remain but the RACS of today has a wider remit, foremost of which is supporting the diverse needs of members at every career stage; underpinning a network of surgical societies and associations that ensures a “for surgeons, by surgeons” approach to surgical education and the maintenance of surgical standards; leading advancements in surgical practice; and advocating on issues that matter to surgeons and their patients.
The College also plays a unique role in setting standards and delivering surgical education and training. It’s a model that is recognised as the best in the world—with benefits for surgeons and future surgeons, and the patients and communities they serve. Through membership, our members play an important role in protecting it.
