Become a CCrISP® Instructor

The CCrISP® course aims to assist doctors in developing simple, useful skills for managing critically ill patients, and promotes the co-ordination of multi-disciplinary care.

CCrISP® is a two and half day course conducted for 16 participants with a faculty of 10 instructors.

Teaching on skills training courses enables RACS Fellows to claim one CPD point per hour, with a maximum of 30 per annum.

• Ensure minimum eligibility criteria is met
• Check against the course pre-requisites
• Complete the Instructor Application form (DOCX 187.08KB)
• Submit form to [email protected]

• Fellow or senior Trainee in relevant field
• Minimum level of seniority Post Graduate Year five
• Eligible specialties: surgeons, anaesthetists, intensivists, emergency physicians, peri-operative physicians and general practitioners
• Interest in managing critically unwell patients
• Interest in teaching

• Attend a CCrISP® provider course as an observer to gain an understanding of the course objectives, content and delivery methods
• Attend a CCrISP® instructor course*
• Teach on a CCrISP® course as an instructor candidate to achieve instructor status
• Teach a minimum of one course per year to maintain instructor status

*Potential instructors who have completed instructor training in EMST may be excluded from this step. Please refer to the Faculty Training Policy (PDF 71.31KB).

CCrISP® instructor courses are run by RACS to facilitate the training of faculty for CCrISP® courses. The instructor course covers various aspects of teaching based on contemporary educational principles and is delivered by an expert educator.

This course addresses the following aspects of teaching:

• Lesson planning
• Giving interactive lectures
• Small group teaching
• Facilitating a discussion
• Use of demonstrations
• Practical skills teaching
• Use of role playing
• Mentoring and role modelling
• Supervision, feedback and assessment
• Managing the learner with difficulty

The Skills Training Department is the communication link between participants, faculty and the CCrISP® committee.
